Water Monitors Added to Hire Fleet

Posted: Sunday 4th May 2008

Gone are the days when water quality monitoring involved rucksacks full of notepads and instruments with repeated trips to the water; Ashtead Technology Rentals has added the YSI 556 multiparameter water quality sonde and the SonTek Flowtracker to its rental fleet of water monitoring instruments.

The YSI 556 is a versatile, multiparameter handheld instrument, highly popular with industry, researchers and regulatory agencies. Rugged and reliable, the YSI 556 combines the versatility of an easy-to-use, easy-to-read handheld unit with all the functionality of a multiparameter system. Featuring an IP-67, impact resistant case, the YSI 556 simultaneously measures dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, temperature, and ORP.

Ashtead’s James Carlyle says “Large numbers of the YSI 556 are employed by regulatory agencies in the UK and around the world, which provides customers with the reassurance that they are working with a reliable, high quality instrument. It lends itself perfectly to renting because the 556 is a rugged, highly flexible tool suitable for a wide variety of water quality monitoring applications. Storing up to 49,000 time stamped records, this instrument enables users to store records for extended periods before download to a PC. Importantly, we test and calibrate the water quality sondes in our workshops so that they are ready for deployment as soon as we deliver them.”

The SonTek FlowTracker employs Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter technology in a compact, hand-held package for accurate, high-precision water velocity measurements in natural streams, weirs/flumes, and open channels. It easily attaches to top-setting wading rods and features an automatic discharge computation program.

The FlowTracker can also store results (up to 64 discharge measurements or over 150,000 individual velocity samples) which means that the two instruments (combined weight of less than 3Kg) offer users the ability to measure water quality and flow simply and accurately.
