Veolia introduces Hybas Fusion wastewater system

Posted: Wednesday 21st March 2018

Veolia Water Technologies UK (Veolia) is pleased to announce the launch of Hybas Fusion, its new biological treatment solution for wastewater, for the municipal and industrial markets, including: food and beverage, pulp and paper, oil, gas and petrochemical.

his modular, flexible product is an adaptation to the AnoxKaldnes pioneering Hybas process which integrates biofilm technology and activated sludge in the same tank, to efficiently reduce both organic material and nitrogen. AnoxKaldnes is a subsidiary of Veolia Water Technologies and provides turnkey project capabilities with the complete suite of water treatment products and engineering solutions.

Hybas Fusion is fabricated off-site and provides a cost-effective means of upgrading an existing activated sludge plant to increase nitrogen removal and increase plant performance. The caged system reflects the concept of Hybas by adding the moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) carriers to part of the aerated activated sludge volume, increasing the nitrification capacity within the existing volume. Typically applied to existing systems, the carriers allow for increased biological capacity by providing a space for the nitrifying bacterial to grow.

The prefabricated Hybas Fusion cages can be easily retrofitted to an existing activated sludge plant, reducing the costs and risk of downtime associated with a conventional installation. This solution can be used where:

Plants cannot take systems or drains offline for significant periods of time for construction or structural modifications

The geometry of the reactors do not fit naturally in to a conventional Hybas configuration

The construction time and costs are critically important.

The Hybas Fusion solution makes it easier to implement further expansion to meet current and future demands, with a negligible impact on the plant's footprint.

AnoxKaldnes and Veolia remain the market leader in MBBR technology with more than 900 references Worldwide. This unique development allows AnoxKaldnes to offer a well-proven technology to locations where restrictions previously limited the application.
