Site inspections made simpler with new mobile solution for utility workers

Posted: Monday 11th January 2016

A new mobile solution has been specifically developed for the utilities sector, which aims to speed up and simplify the site inspection and service upkeep process.

WorkMobile, an award winning mobile solutions and data capture service, has developed a new mobile application that allows field workers to easily collect, monitor and share data to improve processes such as site inspections and repairs of overhead cables and pipes.

Replacing paper forms, the WorkMobile for Utilities app allows utilities workers to capture data in real-time through mobile forms that can be accessed via the users’ smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC.

With utility companies having to act quicker than ever to make repairs and improve efficiencies, adopting cloud service and mobile technology allows them to become more agile and report on the results of inspections or immediately notify personnel of any faults in the infrastructure.

WorkMobile for Utilities’ flexible form designer allows users to create mobile forms relevant to the specific job in hand, including site inspections, health and safety forms and timesheets for all workers on site.

Forms can be quickly deployed to mobile devices, and amended appropriately for various sites, allowing staff to receive electronic forms directly from the field worker to back–offices systems in real-time.

By reducing the need for paperwork, the app helps to reduce user errors, prevent damage and loss, and save time and money.

Colin Yates, business programmes director at WorkMobile, said: “One of the main challenges facing utility workers daily is the upkeep of services for consumers. Electricity cables and water or gas pipes need to be inspected regularly and then repaired quickly in the event of damage. It’s crucial that personnel are notified of work to be done as quickly as possible and kept up to date on the results of inspections, or the progress of repairs.

“The infrastructure utility companies work across is huge and relies on a large number of field workers. To ensure maintenance runs as smoothly as possible, WorkMobile for Utilities has been developed to improve the workflow, quality and performance of this type of work by reducing the need of laborious paper work, which can be timely, lost, or inaccurate.

“All manner of data can be captured, including date and time, location, photos and signatures, on or offline. Job forms can be sent out to employees to issue instructions and command site inspection data as quickly as possible. And they can be quickly and accurately completed and returned to the central office, geo-location and time-stamped, so that businesses know precisely when and where a person was when they returned the form.

“By embracing this type of digital technology, utility companies can help to improve their businesses efficiency and keep services running as smoothly as possible for its consumers.”

WorkMobile for Utilities is ideal for any business application regardless of size or vertical, whether it’s a small energy supplier or a national water company, servicing millions, with thousands of employees working out in the field. Businesses are able to add an unlimited number of mobile workers to the account – whether they are full time or contractors – and build as many forms as needed.
