Market demand has prompted Polypipe, the UK’s leading manufacturer of plastic sustainable drainage and water management products, to extend the sizes of its Ridgistorm-XL large diameter piping range.

Originally available in diameters ranging from 750mm to 2100mm, its popularity with customers and demand for increased sizes has seen Polypipe expertly engineer the piping to new diameters of 2400mm, 2700mm – and a staggering 3000mm.

The super sized, strong and versatile piping system – first launched over five years ago – is utilised across a wide variety of construction sectors ranging from residential developments, commercial, highways, rail and agriculture projects. Typical applications include flood alleviation, rainwater harvesting, renewable energy and air ventilation.

Emma Nicholls, Marketing Communications Manager at Polypipe, said: “As civil engineers and contractors have been applying Ridgistorm-XL in more innovative ways there has been a real drive in the market for Polypipe to investigate extending this popular range. As we already offer a comprehensive range of high quality plastic piping products in a range of smaller sizes, the logical step seemed to be to offer Ridgistorm-XL in larger sizes. As a response to this we have introduced the product in even larger diameters and we are delighted to now be able to officially launch them into the marketplace.”

Ridgistorm-XL has proved popular since its launch due to a number of factors, not least its ability to save a variety of costs during the transport and installation process thanks to its lighter weight compared to the concrete equivalent. Polypipe’s expert team of engineers are also able to add value to projects by value engineering Ridgistorm-XL to exact profile stiffnesses for each application. This off-site design and manufacturing process also allows Polypipe to create a range of bespoke manholes, chambers and fittings unique to each project, making Ridgistorm-XL a truly modularized system.

The larger Ridgistorm-XL piping has the same socket and spigot joint as the original diameters and can be joined with electro-fusion or internal welding options for superior joint integrity. It boasts excellent resistance to sulphate and chemical attack and is 100% recyclable.
