July 10, 2013 was a day of celebration for water and environmental testing equipment manufacturer Palintest Ltd, as the company was officially presented with their Queen’s Award for Enterprise: the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

The Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear visited the company’s headquarters in Gateshead to present the award, with Palintest hosting a celebratory event that was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Gateshead amongst other distinguished visitors.

Especially welcome were members of Dr Palin’s family, who were able to see his legacy continuing to thrive and grow in the modern international business arena. Dr Thomas Palin was a founder of the original company, a water scientist and chemist of world-renown, and the inventor of the DPD test for chlorine in water that has been the world standard for over 50 years.

Palintest employees from the present and the past helped to host the event, enthusiastically showing guests the keys to their success. The alliance of intelligently-designed and easy to use products, produced via integrated manufacturing and logistics processes, has led to the tremendous and consistent growth in export business that won the company its Queen’s Award in the category of International Trade category.

Palintest manufactures a wide range of advanced water and environmental testing equipment that is exported from its Tyneside base to over 100 countries around the world. These products are used in a wide range of applications to protect the environment and safeguard public health, including disaster response, pollution monitoring and drinking water purification. In the past few years alone for example, equipment donated by Palintest has been used to help infrastructure development in Somalia, aid in the response to the 2008 Szechuan earthquake and monitor for harmful levels of fluoride for a dental health outreach project in India.
