Novel 'Drive for hire' service launched

Posted: Wednesday 5th September 2007

Slater Drive Systems (SDS) has launched a novel 'Drive for hire' service, providing drives up to 800kW, which can be delivered on site within a day. Available nationwide, the service is ideal for providing a replacement drive in the event of a breakdown, temporary pumping application or to prove potential energy savings. SDS runs a 24-hour phone line for the hire service, ensuring that drives are always available at whatever time of day or night a customer needs it.

Each drive is preprogrammed to suit the customer's application, so when it arrives on site it need only be connected to the supply to start working.

Same-day delivery compares with a typical four-week lead time for a purchased drive, keeping lost production to the absolute minimum.

One major use of the service is to test the viability of a drive in a new process or potential energy savings before making the decision to purchase, reducing the risk of investing in a new, unproven application.

Kevin Brown, Managing Director of SDS, says: "SDS is the only company to offer this service, and the only one to offer a 800kW drive ready to go".

The hire stock comprises some 260 ABB drives, ranging from 3 up 800kW in various supply voltages

SDS can also offer soft starts and motors for hire, with large motors up to 3.5MW being available.

Minimum hire period for all drives is two weeks.

All hire stock is thoroughly inspected and tested on return before being offered for hire again.

Contact Mr. Peter Stelling, the Hire Division Manager for further details.
