New Digital Leak Noise Correlator

Posted: Friday 10th February 2006

For precise water leak location HWM Palmer Environmental has introduced a new, fully digital leak noise correlator system, available at a cost normally associated with analogue units.

The MicroCorr Digital Dx features the latest digital sensors, transmission and processing and is highly sensitive, even to the low frequencies associated with plastic or large diameter pipes and low pressure conditions.

The easy-to-use system builds on the proven digital technology developed by HWM Palmer Environmental in its MicroCorr Digital and DigiCall systems, minimising signal degradation between the sensors and the processor within the correlator. The sensors digitise at the point of noise pick-up and digital radio transmission protects the quality of data for processing at the central unit.

At the control unit, digital signal processing brings benefits including FFT filter analysis, post-processing and PC download. It also has Coherence Filtering for improved performance in noisy situations, as well as a full replay facility allowing immediate data processing or off-line correlation. A high visibility monochrome display aids data interpretation.

Two-way radio communication allows full system information to be viewed at the control unit, to ensure that the system is correctly deployed for optimum correlation results. As well as minimising data loss and interference, the use of digital radio transmission means that a single radio frequency with two-way communication can be used for both outstations.

The correlator system is rugged and compact and features military specification connectors. It has field replaceable batteries and an outstation status indication at the central unit. A full range of accessories, including hard transport case and digital hydrophone sensors, are available.
