Mobexx launches 7-inch rugged tablet PCs

Posted: Tuesday 8th March 2011

Rugged mobile computing specialist Mobexx has extended its product range with two new 7-inch (18-cm) tablet PCs. The Algiz 7 is an ultra-rugged device for harsh and all-weather environments and the Viliv X70 EX can be used for semi-rugged applications. Both run Windows operating systems - including Windows 7 - and are equipped with power-efficient Intel Atom processors.

The 7-inch format tablet PC is proving popular for all kinds of mobile workforce applications such as field service, engineering, security and mapping and surveying where paper documentation is being rapidly replaced by electronic systems. These devices are a good alternative to larger tablet PCs or laptops, providing better ergonomics than smaller hand held computers or touchscreen PDAs where a larger daylight viewable screen is required without the weight of a bigger device.

Both products are designed as all-in-one mobile computing solutions for speed and ease of use to improve productivity, enhance customer service and reduce operating and servicing costs. Being fully integrated, there is no need for additional equipment although optional in-vehicle mounts are available from Mobexx. They both offer touchscreen input, integrated GPS, wireless multi-connectivity with Bluetooth GSM/GPRS and 3G, a camera and importantly very long battery life. A Solid State Drive (SSD) provides data storage in both products. The Algiz 7 is a built-in 64 GB unit, with the Viliv providing up to 32 GB of storage with easily swappable SSD cards.

“Mobile worker applications will benefit from these new products that have been carefully selected to provide choice. For truly rugged conditions, the Algiz 7 has it all – full mobile computing, data entry and communications functionality in an IP65, MIL-STD-810G shell and yet only weighs 1.1 kg. For situations where the user needs similar computing on the move benefits but in a lighter product, the Viliv X70 EX fits the bill. This product is available with a protective case if required,” says Mark Dale-Lace, Director, Mobexx.
