Kijlstra adds culverts to its production portfolio

Posted: Wednesday 5th July 2017

A new mould at Kijlstra's UK factory enables a larger range of culverts to be produced faster.

Specialist precast concrete drainage manufacturer Kijlstra has responded to the industry's demand for a larger range of standard culverts by investing in new moulds for its UK factory.

The new moulds also allow for faster culvert production and therefore speed up lead times. Their adaptability also means they are capable of producing exciting new additions to Kijlstra's culvert range to pre-empt industry requirements.

The culverts join an ever-expanding portfolio of innovative products Kijlstra produces from its factory near Taunton in Somerset.

They can produce a range of sizes up to 2.1m in height and 3.6m in width, with a standard wall and slab thickness of 250mm.

Prior to leaving the factory they are fitted with a rubber gasket seal which means the contractor does not have to prepare and prime the connections to fit jointing material, thus enabling a quick and easy push-fit installation.

Some of the new culverts have already been produced for projects in nearby Churchinford, Taunton (1m high x 3m wide x 2m long, with a dry weather flow channel) and in Llanelli (1m high x 2.4m wide x 1.9m long).

The Henlade factory already produces the square manholes that launched Kijlstra into the UK eight years ago as well as communication chambers, panel systems for CSOs, attenuation tanks, bridge and jetty elements, headwalls, staircases, duct banks, inspection chambers, sea defence walls, road planks, parapets, U-channels and bespoke retaining walls.

It also produces bespoke specialist products outside of Kijlstra's usual drainage remit, including the perimeter security barrier Blokade, the modular wall system Concrete Blok and brick-faced decorative panels.

Factory manager Rupert Treadaway was keen to emphasise their portfolio was anything but standard in its offer.

He said: "As well as our standard product range we also do a variety of bespoke projects. The workforce has a combined total of more than 370 years' experience in precast concrete manufacture. This knowledge and skillset allows us to provide innovative solutions for our growing client base."
