Posted: Tuesday 13th November 2012

Hydrok, as a member of the Hydra Group of Companies, has been awarded the internationally recognised CEMARS certification in relation to the measurement and reporting of its greenhouse gas emissions. Compliant with ISO 14064-1:2006, the organisation has committed to managing and reducing its greenhouse gases in respect of the operational emissions of its UK organisation.

Hydrok and sister manufacturing and engineering company Hydra(SW) specialise in the design and provision of waste water screening products and high efficiency aeration schemes, the management of installations and operational support services to the water industry. The Group also provides general engineering services, fabrication and design. Hydrok's aim is to develop sustainable solutions that minimises environmental impact, through a reduction in energy consumption.

The Hydrok Head office and the main manufacturing base is in Cornwall, with an additional service and installation unit at Wombwell, near Barnsley, Yorkshire. CEMARS certification compliments the Hydrok formal environmental management system certified to the internationally recognised ISO 14001:2004 standard. Hydrok understands the necessity of reducing the effects of activities upon the environment. The importance of identifying environmental impacts and managing them successfully not only contributes to the company operational efficiency and business prosperity, but to the welfare of the surrounding environment both today and in the future.

Mike Foote, Managing Director said: “Hydrok have always striven to lowering the carbon footprint of the organisation both in our own operational activities and the projects we work on. CEMARS certification and the ISO 14001 standard are a formal recognition and vindication of this company wide approach. CEMARS certification puts us in notable company of major players in the UK Water Industry including the Environment Agency, Anglian Water, South West Water, United Utilities, May Gurney, MWH, plus other major operators within the industry”.

*CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme) recognises organisations for credible carbon measurement, management and reduction. An organisation must measure their carbon emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3 as well as develop a detailed reduction plan with targets and key initiatives outlined. An organisation has five years from the base year to demonstrate either an absolute or relative reduction in carbon emissions. Organisations affected by the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme can also use CEMARS to demonstrate carbon reductions achieved over the last three years for the Early Action Metric. CEMARS is the only standard in the UK accredited to ISO 14065, the recognised international standard for greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies.
