Essential New E-Guide to Vortex Flow Controls

Posted: Monday 10th December 2012

A comprehensive and easy-to-follow guide to vortex flow controls in surface water management and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) has been published by technology leaders Hydro International.

Available to download in electronic form, the guide demonstrates to specifiers, installers and developers the choices of flow control available, provides advice on successful specification and explores the consequences of selection choices on development costs.

The HX Guide to Vortex Flow Controls offers essential advice to anyone involved in drainage design or installation including consulting engineers, architects, contractors and housebuilders. It outlines how flow control design choices can impact on effective flood prevention, as well as on land use and construction costs.

Since Hydro International invented and developed its unique vortex technology, the Hydro-Brake® Flow Control has become an industry-standard method of flow attenuation and a means of creating and controlling stormwater storage and release.

“Vortex technology offers a sustainable solution for managing surface water flood risk on projects of all shapes and sizes – from giant flood prevention schemes protecting cities, to everyday small-catchment drainage schemes,” said Alex Stephenson, Director of Hydro International’s UK Stormwater Division.

“In particular the e-guide provides detailed advice on how to maximise cost savings through careful product and design choices which can have significant consequences for land take as well as installation and maintenance costs.”

The e-guide is the first to be produced by Hydro under the banner of the HX knowledge brand. HX is a new idea that represents the very essence of Hydro. HX stands for Hydro Experience. It's inspired by Hydro's passion for engineering innovation and a drive to push the boundaries of water management technologies through research, product development and industry leadership.
