A-Plant Invests in Green Lighting Towers

Posted: Monday 3rd March 2014

A-Plant the leading Plant, Tool and Equipment hire company has invested in excess of 100 VB9 Eco Lighting Towers from Tower Light UK Limited. The VB9 Eco offers full-power floodlighting combined with real environmental benefits and is one of the latest and most environmentally friendly tower lights on the market.

The VB9 Eco is a mobile lighting tower which features a 9-metre vertical, hydraulic mast and integrates a much smaller power generator. This has proven to reduce fuel consumption by a staggering 75% compared to traditional light towers. By simply utilising a smaller diesel engine combined with a series of electronics, this ensures the metal halide lighting output is not compromised and remains at HSE recommended levels.

One of A-Plant’s largest customers, VINCI Construction UK, has already taken over 40 of the lighting units, most of which are in operation at sites around the country.

VINCI’s Plant Manager, Andrew Thomsett, said, “We have a number of Eco Tower lights on hire from A-Plant; the latest being the VB9 Eco Tower Light. The key reason in increasing the amount of VB9s on hire is because it addresses and brings together genuine environment qualities in terms of lower fuel consumption, resulting in a reduced number of trips to site for refuelling, whilst continuing to maintain safe and proper lighting. The VB9 tower light is a visible statement of our commitment to the environment”.

The VB9 Eco is fitted with four recently developed 400W metal halide lamps which are high efficiency, low consumption floodlights. It integrates a 170-litre capacity fuel tank with a running time between refuelling of 340 hours, an increase of a massive 435%. This means that operators are spared from refuelling each light once a week to once a month, resulting in fewer operators driving to or around a site on a frequent basis. Tower Light have calculated that operating the Eco units can save a contractor over £300 per month in fuel.

A-Plant’s Director of Risk Management Douglas McLuckie said, “As a company we take very seriously the impact our hire equipment has on the environment, therefore we actively source the greenest products in the marketplace from industry-leading suppliers. At this time of the year when daylight hours are limited resulting in increased use of outdoor lighting, it’s more important than ever for our customers to be using the most effective and environmentally sustainable lighting towers to help them continue to carry out their projects.”
