A New Generation Decanter From GEA Westfalia Separator Offers Improved Efficiency

Posted: Wednesday 2nd September 2009

A new energy efficient decanter design from GEA Westfalia Separator Ltd produces high performance dewatering with high throughput capacities. The new machine will be part of a new generation of decanters and has been designed specifically for use in municipal and industrial environmental protection applications and is in direct response to customer demands for high performance, energy efficiency and easy, low cost maintenance.

The UCF 466 pedestal mounted design gives the decanter a totally different look than previous designs and allows for the main motor to be mounted above the axis of the bowl and for the secondary motor to be installed in line giving improved torque performance and operational efficiency. The bowl can be disassembled and V belts to be replaced without the need for the motors to be removed from the machine. This saves time and costs during service and maintenance work whilst the pedestal design also facilitates easy access to replacement parts.

The special rotor geometry plus the high rotor speed guarantees a high throughput capacity of more than 35m/h. Compared to previous models at this scale, the g-volume, which is proportionate in throughput, has been increased by around 70%.

Developments in the design mean the new environmental decanter can be mounted directly on 2 concrete foundation strips from which it is isolated dynamically by shock absorbers on the underside of the frame. This makes the unit easier to install and reduces vibration transmission to foundation providing safe and secure mounting and reduced noise during operation.

Available also as a mobile unit for test purposes this new design decanter, with its wide range of features is the basis for a new generation of decanters from GEA Westfalia Separator.
