Water giants unite to set up new company

Posted: Friday 24th July 2015

New water industry firm Barhale-Response has opened for business in a ceremony at the company’s new purpose-built headquarters – and expansion plans are already in the pipeline.

The official opening of its new office near Liphook, Hampshire, was carried out by Dr. Les Dawson, OBE, former Chief Executive of Southern Water.

Barhale-Response is a coming together of successful civil and MEICA engineering companies Barhale in the UK and Response in Ireland to provide a new service for water industry needs.

The company will focus on the design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning of mechanical, electrical and ICA services across the UK and has been established to become a market leader in the field.

Barhale Response will strive to deliver superior, more innovative, value-driven solutions for clients through working in a collaborative way and utilising the latest smart technologies and software advancements.

General Manager Dave Welch said: “To achieve this, we will collaborate early with our clients to jointly develop the best design on TOTEX-based solutions.

"We will incorporate the latest 3D BIM in our design, include smart technologies and integrated software in our built solutions and promote off-site manufacturing to reduce cost, time and inefficiencies. Developing the right solution first time is key."

Barhale-Response has 50 years of water and wastewater experience, focusing on the needs and requirements of municipal and industrial clients. They include the pharmaceutical, dairy, food and beverage sectors.

The new company has a management team of eight and has two experienced field teams which will increase to 20, with 10 field teams, by early 2016.

David added: “We have the expertise and backing of two huge companies and have the capability to keep all MEICA works, including 3D Design and BIM, in-house rather than outsourcing."

Mr Welch stated that Barhale-Response was putting several proposals together for mechanical and electrical works on contracts for Thames Water, Anglian Water, Wessex Water and Severn Trent Water.

He added: “These are various mechanical, electrical and ICA solutions to improve water and waste water process plants. We have new pumping stations to construct at Staythorpe, Notts, and Derby.

“We want a company that fully responds to all the needs of its clients, which constantly strives to improve, whose employees enjoy coming to work, and a company that earns enough to reward its people and provides funds for growth and business development.

“We are committed to supporting the local community and we will provide services and sponsorship within the local Liphook community and wherever our larger contracts take us."

Barhale Group Chairman Dennis Curran said: “This new business is a coming together of two experienced and successful companies. It is about bringing together the very best of decades of working in many industries."

Dr. Les Dawson OBE said: “The water industry is going to face some really tough times over the next five years. Therefore a new progressive company in the market place is a good thing providing Barhale-Response the opportunity to come forward with innovation and lots of good ideas."

Barhale-Response will focus on:

Establishing and promoting TOTEX solutions

Continuing optimisation of BIM and 3D modelling

Extending and developing off-site fabrication capability

Continued staff development through training and succession management

Carbon reduction through clear plans and practices

Barhale-Response also designs, fabricates and installs made-to-measure products tailored exactly to clients’ needs, including scraper bridges, picket fence thickeners, aeration systems (inc Stahler Wheels and diffused aeration), MCCs, tipping buckets, chemical dosing systems, screening systems, grit removal and steelwork fabrication.
