One of the foremost designers and manufacturers of composite manhole/access covers, Structural Science Composites (SSC), has appointed Phillip Millward as international sales director.

Phillip Millward joins the Barrow-in Furness based company having held a number of senior management, business development and sales roles in high-technology products’ companies operating on a global scale. These include specialist glass and subcontractor C3S Group and CGI International, a manufacturer and distributor of specialist fire resisting glass for the construction industry.

Experienced in international business practice, Millward has in-depth sales, marketing and business development experience across a diverse range of industries including construction, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and packaging.

At SSC, Millward will take over the international sales and marketing responsibility for the Thrubeam® covers brand and one of his key tasks will be to set up a network of distributors on a European and global basis, and to support existing distributors.

Millward says: “Developing the Structural Science business globally will be both challenging and rewarding. SSC has developed and manufactured a market-leading and exciting range of products which is gaining an impressive reputation with utilities and local authorities. SSC’s product development is ongoing and today’s product offering presents an extended and enhanced range of high quality vehicular composite cover (C250 and D400) options.

“Furthermore, the company is now in a position to build its business in a major new area – petroleum forecourts – having developed a range of next-generation watertight covers incorporating SSC’s unique patented Thrubeam® technology. We are also keen to develop business opportunities in other appropriate industries that, to date, have not been high on the company’s radar. One example is the food processing industry – an ideal sector for our coloured pedestrian (B125) covers where we can offer different coloured covers to identify levels of risk in hygiene control areas, such as drains.”

Although Europe will be Millward’s key focus, his remit is also to seek out new territories worldwide. In addition, he will develop the Structural Science Composites’ website and be responsible for brochures and other sales support material.

Structural Science Composites welcomed Millward saying: “Phillip has an enviable track record in sales and marketing in the high-technology, manufacturing and distributor market places and we are confident that he will be able to use his extensive experience to help us build our business worldwide. With Phillip Millward in the Structural Science Composites’ team, we will be able to develop and strengthen the company’s global reach across applications within our target industries.”
