Pennon chief joins British Water board

Chris Loughlin, Group Chief Executive of the Pennon Group Plc, owner of South West Water and Viridor, will join the board of British Water as a non-executive director from May 2016.

Chairman of British Water Tony Williams said: "We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Chris Loughlin to the board of British Water. Over AMP6 and in the years ahead it is more important than ever for the water and environment sector to collaborate more closely and to promote a common voice to government, regulators and most importantly customers.

Stronger relationships

"British Water is building stronger relationships across the supply chain and with utilities in the UK and globally. Chris's insight and experience will be an enormous asset to the association, our staff, membership and the development of our sector," Williams continued.

"A significant part of British Water's work involves driving the promotion of UK expertise and helping UK companies do business in other parts of the world. Chris brings a great deal of understanding in global business."

Mr Loughlin began his career as a chartered civil engineer working in contracting and consulting. He was formerly Chief Operating Officer for Lloyd's Register, executive director of British Nuclear Fuels and Executive Chairman of Magnox Electric. He was also a senior diplomat in the British Embassy in Tokyo.

A former chairman of Water UK, Chris Loughlin is a board member and past President of the Institute of Water and a Board member of the audit committee of WaterAid. He is vice chairman of Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership.

Mr Loughlin said: "I am very happy to be joining the board of British Water, which acts as the voice of the UK water industry supply chain, both at home and abroad. By representing the views of its members British Water creates a focus for water expertise and plays a significant role in shaping the policies of the future."
