Nexus celebrates Leeds’ global leadership in interdisciplinary water research

Posted: Monday 1st April 2019

water@leeds, one of the largest interdisciplinary centres for cutting-edge water research in the world, is teaming up with Nexus, the University of Leeds’ new innovation hub, to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Marking water@leeds’ first decade (2009-2019) and shining a spotlight on the long history of water expertise across the University, a series of events will take place in the brand new, purpose-built Nexus building on the University of Leeds campus.

Championing the research and innovations needed to tackle local and global water challenges, the events will give start-ups, leaders, disrupters and entrepreneurs the opportunity to meet academics and technical specialists focused on health, engineering, environment and data, and find out more about new technologies and how they might be innovatively applied to other sectors.

Participants will also be able to learn more about funding opportunities and ways to collaborate with water researchers from the University of Leeds, as well as arrange one-to-one sessions with academics or facility tours.

Dr Martin Stow, Director at Nexus, said: “water@leeds has been at the forefront of global water research for a decade now and delivers internationally-recognised water science, technology and policy research that has a major impact on society, the environment and our economy.

“We are delighted to be launching this series of events, which form part of our year-round programme of business networking and collaboration activity. We will not only be recognising the department’s outstanding achievements to date, but will also give new and emerging water and health businesses the opportunity to collaborate with industry-leading experts and academics.”

The events, which will feature networking opportunities, a series of talks and presentations, and Q&A sessions, include:

Nexus, will feature state-of-the-art facilities including office and lab space, collaboration areas, event and meeting space and a dedicated team who will be responsible for facilitating productive working partnerships and collaborations. Connecting businesses to the University’s world-class research and facilities and talent, Nexus will give businesses a competitive edge in a dynamic market.
