A new Presidential team at CIWEM is helping to achieve a more clean, green and sustainable world. Alastair Moseley has taken over from David Rooke MBE and is joined by Ken Shapland as the new Vice-President and Malcolm White as President-Elect.

Alastair Moseley is the Water Sector Director for international consultant, WSP Group. In a career spanning twenty-five years in civil engineering and environmental management, Alastair’s wide experience embraces sustainable urban drainage systems; hydrology and hydrogeology; river system analysis; flood risk assessment; rainfall analysis and catchment response; sewage and water treatment; integrated water management; water and wastewater networks; water industry asset management; and strategy planning.

During his induction speech, Alastair acknowledged the honour of becoming President of CIWEM:

“I am very proud to be taking on the Presidency of what is the world’s largest single professional Institution representing professionals working to create a sustainable built environment and ensure that our natural environment is fit to support and nurture generations to come.”

Outside of working hours, Alastair is an active musician, playing clarinet with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra. As a result, he wishes to add a musical dimension to CIWEM’s Arts and Environment initiative, saying:

“Music often colours the way we view and interpret what we see and enjoy. Composers have long been inspired by the environment and listening to and enjoying their interpretation can help us increase our empathy with the environment and our desire to protect and nurture it.”

Malcolm White, FCIWEM, is based currently in Australia where he is employed as a senior advisor to Connell Wagner’s water business. Previously he retired from Mott MacDonald after 20 years with the company, the last five as Managing Director of their Water and Environment Business. Ken Shapland is the Environmental Regulation Manager at Severn Trent Water. Ken's role is to interpret and understand environmental regulations and to advise how they apply to company activities.

The Presidential Inauguration took place at CIWEM’s AGM on Thursday 11th September. The President’s Award also took place, with the prize going to Professor Andrew Wheatley, FCIWEM.
