British Water Elects New Vice-Chairman

Posted: Wednesday 12th August 2015

Veolia’s Mike Froom has been elected Vice-Chairman of British Water’s UK Forum. Mike is Business Development Director at Veolia Water Technologies, and, on taking up the post at British Water’s summer meeting on the 7th July, he commented “I’m looking forward to the coming year and supporting the current Chair.”

Over the last few years British Water has held 20 Innovation Exchanges, hosting 71 workshops in which 200 different suppliers have presented to nearly 700 people attending from 21 client organisations. They’ve proved to be a great benefit both to members and client organisations, and Mike wants to see this continue: “Over the next couple of years I’m hopeful that the Innovation Exchange programme will translate into early adoption of ideas and technology by the water companies. My role is to communicate the success, but equally to represent our members’ interests if there are frustrations regarding the pace of adoption.”

Mike has been in the construction and water sector for over 30 years and has lived through all of the AMPs. “British Water’s lobbying of government and the regulator in recent years led to Ofwat allowing Transition Expenditure at the end of AMP5. That £363m of funding is a significant improvement on previous price control periods, and will help establish a smoother investment profile”, he says. “I hope that this, together with Totex, will mark a permanent shift in the approach to the management and delivery of water treatment assets in the UK, but there is still some way to go and I will be supporting this ongoing campaign.”
