Binnies appointed by ESD as strategic engineering+ subcontractor for Scottish Water

Posted: Tuesday 14th September 2021

Binnies is delighted to announce its appointment by ESD as strategic engineering+ subcontractor on Scottish Water’s £600 million SR21 Non-Infrastructure Framework, which will run from 2021 to 2027.

The agreement will see Binnies support ESD with its engineering+ services. The company will draw on decades of water and wastewater experience and technical expertise to provide treatment solutions across Scotland.

It is expected that the new appointment will see 40–50% of design across ESD’s SR21 programme carried out by Binnies professionals through a combination of secondments and subcontract orders.

This announcement comes just months after Binnies (formerly Black & Veatch UK) joined leading integrated environmental, engineering and technical services business RSK group in January 2021 and continues the RSK expansion into the UK water industry.

Binnies is currently part of the ESD SR15 joint venture partnership along with Galliford Try and MWH Treatment fulfilling Scottish Water’s SR15 non-infrastructure programme.

The fully integrated joint venture incorporates the experience, expertise, people and systems of all the partners to form a single integrated team delivering as ESD.

The current SR15 portfolio is £550 million across six years and will have seen ESD deliver over 150 projects for Scottish Water by the end of the framework period.

Binnies Scotland Delivery Director Alan Knowles spoke enthusiastically of the new appointment, saying, “I am delighted that we have been appointed as strategic subcontractor to ESD and we look forward to supporting Scottish Water and ESD in delivering their operational objectives of reduced carbon, improving cycle times by 50% and reducing cost to start on site by 30%.

“The appointment builds on the existing long-term relationships we have with Scottish Water and ESD and recognises the significant contribution our people have made over many years across successive regulatory periods. The appointment represents a key part of our business strategy to consolidate our position in the Scottish water market while providing a platform to diversify and grow Binnies in Scotland.”

Work on SR21 will be delivered predominantly by the Binnies Delivery Scotland team supported by digital, environmental, geotechnical and hydraulics specialist capability from around the UK.
