A Rochdale-based aeration company has landed a lucrative contract to supply an aeration system for one of the world’s largest sequencing batch reactors.

Suprafilt, who are based on Albion Road Industrial Estate, has recently been commissioned by contractor AECOM, on behalf of client GCA, to supply a new aeration system to Liverpool Wastewater Treatment Works for United Utilities.

The company, who design and manufacture energy efficient fine bubble diffused aeration solutions, together with a range of stainless steel products including pipework and pressure vessels, will be delivering a high efficiency in-tank aeration system comprising of more than 70,000 9inch disc diffusers.

The diffusers will be mounted on environmentally friendly polypropylene pipes which are fed by 316 stainless steel header pipes. The aeration system at Liverpool is the third of only three ‘double decker’ aeration systems in the world, and comprises 16 basins in total.

Graeme Fielden, Sales Director at Suprafilt, says: “We have a long-standing working relationship with AECOM. We’ve been involved in supplying aeration systems to many of their sequencing batch reactors in the past.

“A deal of this calibre is definitely a game changer.”

The project will start on site August 2013 and will be complete by July 2014.

Kevin Jones, AECOM’s project manager for water, Europe, says: “Our relationship with Suprafilt began almost 20 years ago and continues to this day. When we evaluated the different processes available for the new Liverpool Waste Water Treatment Works CASS Upgrade, our key criteria were low capital costs, reduced operational costs and a simple, flexible and robust process.

“We are confident that with Supralift we have met this standard and selected the best company for the project. Suprafilt offers competitive prices, sound technical knowledge and great support from tender stage through to project delivery.”

Suprafilt works with some of the UK’s major water companies and leading industrial organisations such as Seven Trent Water, Thames Water and Diageo.

Suprafilt Limited specialises in the design, installation and commissioning of both fixed and lift-out fine-bubble diffused aeration systems for municipal and industrial sewage treatment plants. The company is committed to helping organisations improve their energy efficiencies and works in partnership with Universities, independent research institutions and technical and process experts to remain at the leading edge of technology in this field.

The company employs 16 people and is based on Albion Industrial Estate in Rochdale.
