Water balance improved by MTS and CDEnviro

Posted: Thursday 16th February 2017

Liquid waste management specialists MTS successfully removed nearly 100 tonnes of grit and rag from a primary balance tank at a major utility company's sewage treatment works in just four weeks, thanks to a screening solution from CDEnviro.

The balance tank is vital for regulating the flow of sewage, and any grit and rag in the tank impedes performance. Using the mobile classification unit from CDEnviro allowed MTS to separate this material from the waste water. At some points it was achieving removal rates of nearly 30 tonnes of rag and grit a week.

In addition to providing increased operational efficiency in the balance tank, a key advantage of the CDEnviro solution is that, once processed, the waste is drier and easier to manage.

The amount of waste sent to landfill is reduced, and with landfill costs continuing to rise, this gives companies a route to achieving considerable reductions in costs as well as increasing operational efficiencies.

Grit and silt recovered from the waste water can be resold as recycled products, giving customers a new revenue stream. In addition, the organics and other screened material can be used in energy generation. As an added bonus, transport costs are also reduced as recycling and material recovery takes place onsite.

The solution has been used successfully in the UK at major utility companies, as well as with industry contractors.
