Staff at Xylem Water Solutions are making waves after playing their part in the hugely successful London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics: Market leading Flygt pumps were installed into the Olympic white water course, which saw team GB take home gold and silver medals in the C2 canoe slalom competition.

Completing the line-up for the top three metals, Xylem’s bronze impeller Flygt PL 7121 was selected for its ability to deliver enormous flow rates capable of really testing the Olympians skill in the water.

Five pumps were fitted in the competing slalom course with a further three Flygt PL7121 pumps installed in the adjacent intermediate course. And although the games are over, they leave a lasting legacy as both courses will remain in use as a world-class canoeing and white water rafting facility which will be enjoyed by both elite athletes and thrill-seekers.

And Xylem’s involvement didn’t stop there, working with contractors to install wastewater Flygt Pumping stations for the Olympic Village and a Sanitaire aeration system within the Membrane Bioreactor at the Blackwater Treatment Facility which supplied grey water across the Olympic Park for applications such as irrigation, water fountains and even flushing toilets.

Mike Hemingway, General Manager, Sales for Xylem Water Solutions in the UK comments:

“Playing our part in the London 2012 Olympics has been a great honour and a real team effort from our own world class team of employees across our business!

“With our proven track record and engineering experience in white-water stadiums all over the world, we are proud to have delivered the right solution for this year’s Olympics. Watching team GB fight for victory on waves created by our Flygt pumps was thrilling and winning gold and silver medals on the back of our bronze impeller pumps is something to really shout about.”

Flygt, a Xylem brand has been the preferred brand of submersible pumps for the Olympic white water courses for six consecutive Olympic Games, having provided pumps for the Games in Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London.
