Taking care of drainage

Posted: Friday 3rd June 2011

CHAPS, the heating and mechanical services company, is using Drain Center to provide a one stop shop for all of its drainage and plumbing product requirements on a new extra care development for Housing 21.

Turves Green in Northfield, Birmingham, is a development for Housing 21, the leaders in care and housing for older people. The 87 apartments for private sale or rent are part of an extra care development which gives older people independent living with the care and support they need.

CHAPS is installing the under floor heating, plumbing, drainage and ventilation for the project which is due for completion in March 2011. The company prides itself on completing projects on time regardless of size or specification, so it turned to Drain Center to help it manage the many different products required throughout the build process.

As well as supplying all of the products required by CHAPS, Drain Center is also managing the inventory throughout the project to ensure stock is available when needed. Gareth Chamberlain, contracts engineer from CHAPS, commented: “I wanted to have a one stop shop for all of the brands we need for the heating, plumbing, drainage and ventilation without having to speak to lots of different companies. Using Drain Center right from the beginning of the project meant they could price and collate all of the information for me. This means I only have to deal with one person to set up all of the rebates and discounts and it takes away the headaches and paperwork of dealing with lots of different suppliers.

“The key part of my project is bringing it in on time and with the help of Drain Center’s deliveries and reporting, this ensures stock is here when we need it and saves us money because we don’t end up over ordering.”

Simon Marklew, regional manager for Drain Center, adds: “Managing stock lead times and availability is a key part of our total drainage solutions service so we’re delighted to be working with CHAPS in this way on the Housing 21 project. We’re finding that increasingly companies are looking to source all of their drainage products from one place and we are ideally placed to do that with access to over 15,000 products and a leading distribution network. Also because we have sister brands, Build Center and Plumb Center, it means that customers can manage a complete project on one account.”
