Suprafilt save Seven Trent Water 30% of energy

Posted: Monday 11th February 2013

A North West based aeration firm has saved water company Seven Trent Water over 30% of its energy with its innovative diffuser system.

Rochdale-based Suprafilt was brought on board by Nomenca Ltd to find a cost effective solution to upgrade the diffusers at the Ilkeston water treatment plant 18 months ago.

The company, who are market leaders in designing and manufacturing of energy efficient fine bubble diffused aeration solutions, designed a high efficiency system based around MF 1100 plate diffusers, which when installed have reduced the energy consumption of the plant by 30% - saving them £30,000 per year.

Jonathan Lord, Contracts Director at Suprafilt, says: “We originally installed the diffusers at the Ilkeston plant 15 years ago, so it was nice to work here again.

“Our original brief was to look at the various options available to upgrade the existing diffusers to membranes in three lanes, whilst looking at the process optimisation and energy savings.

“In the end we decided on the MF 1100 plate diffusers, which offered Seven Trent Water a high efficiency system and lowest whole-life cost. This is based around an 8% per metre SOTE (standard O2 transfer efficiency).

“Over the year we’ve calculated over £30,000 in energy savings, since the new aeration system’s installation.

“It’s been great working with Nomenca - we have a strong and honest working relationship and the engineers we worked with were first class. We’re hopeful in carrying on our association with Ilkeston.”

Ian Clarke, Site Manager at NMCNomenca Ltd, says: “It’s been great to work with Suprafilt – their site team in particular were very good.

“All aspects of the site install were exactly on schedule or in some cases ahead of the programme dates. We wouldn’t hesitate in working with them again.”
