Suffolk manufacturer ensures Silverstone water reaches podium standards

Posted: Thursday 1st September 2011

When the world’s fastest drivers converge on Silverstone for the British Grand Prix they will be treated to the highest quality water thanks to a British manufacturer.

DaRo UV Systems, part of the Suffolk based DaRo group, has supplied the world famous circuit with a revolutionary UV water disinfection unit which will be used at the track’s iconic new £27m pit and paddock complex.

The UV system, which is worth thousands of pounds, will supply the superb new complex with 20 cubic metres of bacteria free water an hour, which will be used equally for hospitality purposes, cleaning and use in the multi-million pound Formula 1 racing cars. The system is part of the company’s 6 Series range and was made to order by its specially trained UV engineers.

Julian Cant, general manager at DaRo UV systems, said: “The new pit and paddocks is a fantastic complex, taking Silverstone to amongst the best motor racing venues in the world and we are delighted one of our products will play a vital part in its success.

“Everything at the new complex is state-of-the-art, no expense has been spared, so I suppose it is fitting that a revolutionary water purifying system is being used. UV light is becoming an increasingly popular method of purifying water and food because it is environmentally friendly. UV kills bacteria without using chemicals, and the less chemicals we use the better it is for our health and the environment in general.”

The new pit and paddocks, known as the Wing, was opened earlier this year by the Duke of Kent in front of British motor racing legends Damon Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Nigel Mansell and John Watson. It took 18 months to complete and stretches 390m along the pit lane between the legendary Club and Abbey corners, and rises 30m at its highest point. In addition to providing new world class racing facilities, the new complex features new garages, a race control centre, conference and exhibition space, a new podium, a media centre and hospitality and VIP spectator zones.

The work at Silverstone is DaRo’s second cause for celebration in recent weeks. The company has received full accreditation from the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme for its UV water purifying systems. WRAS was set up to promote knowledge of water regulations throughout the UK and to encourage their enforcement to prevent waste, undue consumption and contamination of water. The body consults with the Government on behalf of the water supply industry. The WRAS endorsement will open up a host of new market opportunities for the company.
