SITA Enjoys Increased Efficiencies Through Preventative Maintenance from CDEnviro

Posted: Thursday 8th May 2014

Recycling and resource management company SITA UK have derived significant benefits from a Preventative Maintenance service offered by the UK’s leading waste water treatment provider CDEnviro.

Following the installation of a road sweepings and gully waste recycling plant at their Neatchells Lane facility in Wolverhampton in early 2012, SITA invested in an extensive 15 year service support programme which as a result affords them regular site visits, thorough plant inspections and plant performance reviews.

With an estimated 98% of road sweepings now being diverted from landfill and processed by the CDEnviro plant, SITA had a requirement to ensure that the recycling plant performed consistently and efficiently in order to allow for the maximum throughput of material. From this, SITA decided to embark on a 15 year programme of planned visits through which assessments are carried out to ensure that all aspects of plant operation are performing to its optimum capacity.

Following 8 regular site visits per year, CDEnviro engineers provide detailed Preventative Maintenance Inspection reports in the form of a critical review of the plant.
This approach allows SITA to maximise the working life of the plant items due to the effective implementation and monitoring of all recommended maintenance regimes.
Regular visits also allow engineers to ensure that all time bound maintenance schedules are being adhered to. Physically seeing the plant run allows the engineers to also recommend any operational changes for enhancing plant performance.

Senior Commercial Manager Tim Hughes said “We were impressed by the performance of the road sweepings and gully waste recycling plant in terms of its capability to process huge volumes. The Preventative Maintenance Programme was the next step to make sure we got the most out of the facility. Having regular personal contact with CDE engineers means SITA staff on site know who to contact when there is a problem and have the confidence that their questions will be answered. This has helped us optimise the running capacity of the plant and set benchmarks for what can be processed as well as allowing us to manage our maintenance budget more efficiently. The engineers know our operation and staff intimately, which helps resolve issues quickly and accurately.”

CDEnviro CustomCare Manager Fergal Campbell comments “With the Preventative Maintenance Programme, we have the ability to closely monitor and review the performance of SITA’s plant on a regular basis. On each visit we can ensure that the capacity of the plant is reaching projected volumes of throughput and highlight and prevent any particular issues from occurring in the future. The frequent onsite visits allow us to recognise any potential signs of wear which may not be evident to daily operatives over a longer time period and we can also recalibrate the plant if and when required. We are also able to identify and recommend any new process improvements that have the potential to improve the plant even further”.

The road sweepings are recycled for use in a variety of forms including sand, washed aggregate and compostable material using the latest CDEnviro technology. This facility processes more than 40,000 tonnes of road sweepings each year which would have previously been landfilled.
