SevernTrent Water Chooses Versatile MiniMuss Branch Saddle as Repair Solution

Posted: Friday 18th April 2014

When a 630mm x 355mm under pressure metallic wrap around tee bolted onto a 630mm polyethylene water pipe failed in Rugby, Severn Trent Water promptly contacted site services specialists RadiusPLUS to come up with a solution to repair the main quickly with minimal disruption to their customers.

The water trunk main could only be off-line for a minimum amount of time and RadiusPLUS water technicians Mark Allott and Graham Gordon who attended site, carried out the repair within the allocated timescale. Working closely with contractors Whitehouse Construction who were responsible for excavation safety, RadiusPLUS first operation was to remove the metallic tee and piece in a new 630mm polyethylene pipe section with associated electrofusion couplers. The section was fully operational before welding, under pressure, the 630mm x DN300 MiniMuss branch saddle, reconnecting the main onto the existing 355mm branch.

Mark Allott, RadiusPLUS’s site technician explained: “we had to work quickly to carry out the repair and commission the 630mm repaired section as it was critical that downtime was kept to a minimum. This site was particularly challenging and our MiniMuss branch saddle helped us save installation time.”

Kevin Scoffield, distribution team manager for Severn Trent Water added: “the MiniMuss branch saddle was the right solution for this repair as it now provides Severn Trent Water with a fully welded solution with high joint integrity. We were keen to keep disruption to our customers to a minimum, it was therefore important to re-commission the main quickly”.

MiniMuss is a versatile and compact branch saddle offering unique advantages for repairs and new connections to lateral pipelines, air valve and hydrant connections and can also be used to deploy flow stopping tools during repair or diversion operations.
