AESL has recently completed the refurbishment of a pipe crossing over a metro line for Northumbria Water Limited. The works involved the removal and re-installation of two sets of anti-vandal guards following grit blasting and re-painting with the Denso Epoxy/Polyurethane corrosion protection system.

The pipes sections were power wire brushed and then wrapped using Denso Hi-Tack Tape followed by Denso Ultraseal Tape and finally coated with an acrylic paint system to seal and further protect, all joints were profiled using Denso profiling mastic to accommodate wrapping.

The works took 6 nights to complete working between 1.30am and 3.30am, work was conducted over the bridge parapet using an access platform and at each end of the pipe crossing from a scaffold working platform. The works required full traffic management to allow the access platform to be sited and that the track and overhead power be isolated during the working period.
