Marston’s and Serious Waste Management seal ongoing contract

Posted: Tuesday 24th June 2014

Serious Waste Management, based in Burton on Trent, has been awarded an extension to the wastewater contract for all Marston PLC pubs and restaurants, taking the relationship between the two companies into its sixteenth year of collaboration.

The contract will include the operation and management of the sewage treatment plant, pumping stations, septic tanks, and grease traps throughout Marston’s outlets until 2016.

Peter Jarema, Managing Director of Serious said: “We are delighted to be able to continue working for a company that cares so passionately about the environment. Marston’s are as determined as we are to make sure that their maintenance and repairs to their wastewater systems are looked after properly and managed professionally without any risk of pollution”.

One of the challenges with pubs is to keep the business open while problems are dealt with. Serious has established a reputation for dealing quietly and quickly with equipment breakdowns and potential pollution threats.

Marston’s and Serious are both aware of the fact that building control officers, the water utilities and the Environment Agency are clamping down on establishments that do not comply with the strict regulations.

Peter Jarema added, “For those sites that are not connected to main drainage, keeping them clear and in efficient working order is a challenge we relish.”

Gavin Barrett, Senior Surveyor at Marston’s expressed his enthusiasm at the continued association with Serious, “Marston’s and Serious work well together to make sure that our statutory duties are fully carried out. This helps us to ensure that we’re diligent in our responsibilities and are extremely environmentally friendly.”

“Serious have recently delivered a successful installation programme, upgrading or installing sewage treatment plants or pumping stations into several Marston’s sites,” he added.
