Knostrop work completed

Posted: Monday 6th April 2009

Spaans Babcock Ltd, based in Heywood in the UK, completed the installation of a large compact screw pump on behalf of Earthtech Morrison at Yorkshire Water's Knostrop Waste Water Treatment Works in Leeds in January.

The screw pump (pictured) weighs 37 tonnes and is approximately 15 metres long. It has a capacity of 2,510 l/s over a head of 5.26 m. The screw is 2.7 m diameter and has a 200 kW motor.

The compact screw pump is a packaged unit supplied complete from the factory for installation in simplified civil structures. At Knostrop, the installation of the screw pump was completed in one day.

The screw pump has been installed to supplement the capacity of an existing Yorkshire Water pumping station which has been operating for 36 years; this brings the total number of Spaans screws on the site at Knostrop to ten.

The screw pump was installed as part of a 700k order from Earthtech Morrison which is upgrading two of the large screw pumping stations at Knostrop.
