IWO patrons announced

Posted: Thursday 4th December 2008

Pamela Taylor (Founder Director and first Chief Executive of Water UK) and Barbara Frost (Chief Executive of WaterAid) have accepted invitations to become Patrons of IWO.

The theme for IWO for 2008 was “Pride in our Industry” – a call for each of us to remember that we are an essential service with an exceptional track record and a promising future. To this end IWO wants to create a structure within the Institution which demonstrates just how important we all believe it to be. To help us do this IWO will install a small group of eminent industry and Government leaders as our Patrons.

Pamela Taylor is a founder Director and the first Chief Executive of Water UK. Set up in April 1998, Water UK focuses on policy identification, development and delivery, pioneering working in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders in the UK, Brussels and internationally. Pamela was awarded the OBE in 2004.

Accepting IWO President Jack Carnell’s invitation to become a patron, Pamela said:

‘I am absolutely honoured and thrilled to be asked, and of course would be delighted to accept.’

Barbara Frost Chief Executive of WaterAid was also delighted to accept the invitation, and thanked Jack for ‘a wonderful opportunity.’

Barbara became Chief Executive of WaterAid in 2005. WaterAid is an international development organisation with a turnover of £20m. It works in 17 countries in Africa and Asia with partners (community based organisations, governments and small private sector providers) that are delivering safe water, sanitation and hygiene messages to some of the world’s poorest people. WaterAid uses the experiences gained from working in these countries to advocate for safe water and sanitation for all.

IWO first became involved with WaterAid in 1981 when support was pledged to the United Nations Decade of Water. Support has continued over the years and a considerable amount of money has continued to be raised at both national and local level.
